Boarding our buses in a Wheelchair

All our buses are fitted with wheelchair ramps and have a maximum overall weight limit of 300kgs on the ramps. Accessibility regulations specify the wheelchair sizes that buses must carry . The maximum sizes are as follows:

  • Maximum Length (1200mm) This includes extra footplates,

  • Maximum Width (700mm)

  • Maximum sitting height (1350mm) from ground to top of head

  • Maximum combined weight (300kgs) Chair + User

If your wheelchair meets this specification, then you should be able to board the bus provided there is is not already a wheelchair user occupying the wheelchair space. Please note that some powered wheelchairs are larger and heavier than the above specifications and would either not fit safely for travel or be too heavy to safely use the ramp.

Wheelchairs must be positioned as per the instructions on the bus, with the parking brake/and or other means of park brake applied for the full journey until the bus has stopped at the users alighting stop.

Please note that scooters/motorised scooters are not accepted for travel on our buses, and many of these are larger then the specifications set out above.

Pushchairs and Buggies

Pushchairs and buggies must not block any gangways or exits and must be folded away if requested by the driver.

The wheelchair bay must be vacated immediately by a pushchair user should a wheelchair want to board the bus.

Dogs

Guide dogs are welcome at all times on our buses,

Other dogs may only be carried at the drivers discretion. A maximum of one dog per bus at any one time, and they must sit on the floor, remain on a lead and not be allowed to sit on the seats. Dogs must be controlled by the owner at all times.
